Bringing together worlds that apparently seem totally different and without a meeting point is possible. And to demonstrate this is the VALUES project - enVironmentAL and historical edUcation in Europe through Sport, or Environmental and historical education in Europe through Sport - of which two weeks ago the kick-off meeting was held between all the partners involved: the Association Régionale UISP-USEP Alpes-Méditerranée -which also plays the role of leader- the UISP Ciriè Settimo Chivasso Committee, the French Comité Régionale AURA USEP and the Consell Esportiu del Baix Camp of Tarragona.
From 9 to 12 June, a representation composed of some members from each of the partner associations, went to the French municipality of Annecy not only for the initial meeting - during which, among other things, the logo and the site created by the Ciriè Settimo Chivasso Committee - but also for a training event. VALUES in fact has its roots in the experience of the "Les Chemins de la Mémorie" project which for years has been carried out nationally by the association CRUSEP AURA -Comité Régional Union Sportive de l'Enseignement du Premier degrè, Auvergne Rhône Alpes. In fact, on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 June, the CRUSEP AURA experts trained the various participants on the methodology to be used in order to implement all the objectives of the project. VALUES in fact contains rather peculiar aspects that at first glance can hardly be correlated: sports practice, the memory of the partisan resistance, respect for the environment, knowledge of the local flora and fauna.
"First there was a day of learning in the classroom - explained the Director of the Territorial UISP, Roberto Rinald - where the experts illustrated the methodology theoretically. On the second day we moved on to practice: the CRUSEP AURA experts invited us to participate in their final meeting of The Paths of Memory which is held every year at Plateau des Glières, where 127 French partisans died during the Second World War ”. An appointment that involved 20 Primary School classes. For a total of 500 participants between children and teachers.
"It was a really interesting way to learn firsthand the correct way to practice a historical-cultural activity of this kind, which will then have to be re-proposed in partner countries, in order to spread this good practice at European level. During the training at Plateau des Glières we were able to carefully observe the various activities offered to children along the way, between historical memory and open-air workshops to introduce the flora and fauna of the area, but also to let them learn notions about reality of the mountain pastures ”continues Rinaldi.
The journey through the paths of memory ended with an evocative closing ceremony, which was also attended by the president of the Department of Haute-Savoie.
